Lebanon busts terror cell, large weapons cache
BEIRUT: Lebanese security forces busted an alleged terror cell and confiscated a large cache of arms, General Security said in a statement Friday.
Members of the cell, which was comprised of six Syrians and a Lebanese national, are suspected of working at the behest of extremist organizations in Lebanon.
A General Security unit raided the house of the Lebanese suspect and seized a warehouse that contains a large quantity of arms, grenades and detonators.
The unit also confiscated a drone, along with a booby-trapped car that had a secret compartment used to smuggle arms.
It is not clear when the terror cell was apprehended but the directorate said investigations are ongoing.
The suspects allegedly confessed to their charges.
General Security, the army and other security forces frequently carry out raids against suspected militants across Lebanon as part of a crackdown on sleeper cells in the country.
